SQ is the first stage in an incredible, master planned revitalization of Alexandra Park that will see it transformed into an exceptional, renewed and vibrant community bursting with parks, green spaces, modern design and inspired architecture. Tridel, Toronto's most acclaimed condominium builder, is breathing fresh life into this prime downtown neighbourhood. SQ is one of the most imaginative and desirable condo ownership opportunities in Toronto today.
Phase 1 as a whole will include the demolition of 85 existing RGI units, the replacement of 61 of those RGI units, and the refurbishment of 139 existing units. It will also introduce new streets and improved east-west pedestrian connections.
Toronto Community Housing and Tridel chose Teeple Architects to design the two market condominiums. Teeple Architects' commitment to architectural innovation, sustainability, and environmentally conscious design made them the perfect candidate to take on a design challenge of this magnitude.
Now that both architects have been selected and the design process is underway, Toronto Community Housing and Tridel are working with the Alexandra Park community to begin Phase One demolition and construction by fall 2013. Resident Relocation
The resident relocation process is scheduled to begin in spring 2013. The Toronto Community Housing Relocation Office opened in Atkinson/Alexandra Park in March 2013.
The Alexandra Park community was built starting in 1968.The last building constructed was 20 Vanauley, built in the 1980s. It was originally a public housing community with some buildings managed by the province and others by the City of Toronto. By 1990, the leadership of the Alexandra Park Residents Association (APRA) were convinced that residents would prefer tenant-led property management. After years of community consultation, in 1998 the province approved a plan to convert Alexandra Park to the Atkinson Housing Co-operative (Atkinson/Alexandra Park) and transfer property management responsibilities to the newly formed co-operative.
Today, the Atkinson Co-op manages 410 townhouse and apartment units in Alexandra Park, with Toronto Community Housing managing the remaining 396 apartment units. The revitalization is a partnership between both organizations to transform the neighbourhood.
