How A Collections Agency May View Store Credit Cards

By Robert Sutter

How many times have you been offered the chance to sign up for a store credit card at any major establishment? Have you been given the opportunity to fill out a form for the prospect of big savings as you spent more and more money on various items? I'm sure that you have and I am of the opinion that quite a few have actually signed up the moment that it has been offered to you. There are a few caveats to consider, though, and I think that a collections agency can tell you all about these.

Store credit cards may seem like great ideas on the surface, which is why so many people sign up for them. They are prime examples of convenience, allowing individuals to pay for all of the items that they enjoy. In addition, they are able to do so while attaining benefits which could only help to make their shopping experiences that much better, right? As good as this concept may seem, I have to wonder whether they will be able to attract consumers in the long term or not.

What are some of the reasons, then, why so many individuals seem to become financially burdened as a result of these cards? Most of this has to do with interest rates, which they were probably not aware of when they signed up for the deals. One could make the argument that consumers should have looked over the finer details prior to filling out the application for a given card. However, when you're in line and your items are being rung through, chances are that some details are overlooked.

Agencies like Rapid Recovery may also believe that some consumers are simply loyal to a store, to a fault. These individuals will refuse to shop anywhere else because they believe that they are receiving the best deal at that establishment, whether that frame of mind is true or not. They may not want to step outside of their own boundaries, which is a problem. Those working with a collections agency can tell you that there are likely better deals elsewhere and you can still attain the items you have purchased before.

While I do believe that there are great offers at first glance, you have to take into account every feature that a store credit card has to offer. There may be a couple of concepts which will work against you if you aren't mindful. These cards can place a financial burden on you, so make sure that you are able to assess all of the aspects they contain. Being able to do so is going to help you immensely as you make the decision whether or not to open such an account.
