Easy Way To Create The Kaleidoscope Effect On Your Photos

By Ann Collins

Objects at a distance appear to have a natural kaleidoscope element. This effect is fascinating and when applied on images gives them a superb feel. The kaleidoscope effect is created by repeating a motif severally on the same image. The motif is placed in a specific manner to make the collage seamless and produce the desired feel. Here is a considered and sure way of achieving this.

Nature appears to have natural hexagonal element. The hexagon therefore forms the basis of pattern creation. With a blank A4 Photoshop page, you are required to select a hexagon of your preferred size. You may pick a shape with more sides but the hexagon is always easier to use. Use lines to find the center and dissect the shape diagonally and vertically.

Create a triangle with its tip at the center of your hexagon. You only need to draw a line to one corner of selected hexagon. The lines used to mark the center will form the other boundary of your triangle. The triangle guides you on the size and shape of patterns to create. Two triangles in one quarter will not be of a similar size but this should not be a bother.

It is time to import your base image to a new Photoshop page. The imported image should be of the highest quality possible. This ensures that the final image is also of a high quality. Before commencing on development of your patterns, removal all undesired elements or marks on your image. You should also consider adjustments like decreasing white and increasing black to make it clearer.

The triangle cut from the hexagon is then dragged over the imported image. It helps create the motif of your art. The size of the triangle can be altered to desired size to fit your overall expectations. Identify the area you would like to replicate and move the triangle over it. Position it in a way that allows you to achieve a desirable pattern.

Move away from the image to create the kind of patterns you would like to apply on your image. The shapes and patterns could be handmade using such tools as ink spray, brush, paint, etc. You are at liberty to develop any pattern as long as it is creative. Use layers to prepare your patterns on Photoshop before applying them on your image. The marks are made more solid by increasing black and decreasing white.

Paste the patterns on the images beginning from corners of your triangle. Use identical or duplicate patterns to make your image uniform. Delete the background such that the patterns are clear and the image behind can be seen. More than one pattern can be used on the image. The opacity of resultant collage is then increased to 100 percent.

The triangular section is then extracted from the clip board. The area captured should represent your desired features. The triangle is duplicated by inserting it back into the hexagon with edges appearing as though they are reflections. With the hexagon filled, it is ready for duplication as well until the image acquires the desired size and shape. The final image is then cropped to target shape and size.
