Sylvan Lake is located in Central Alberta. This is a nice peaceful town which is around 25 km west of the Red Deer city. Sylvan Lake town is located along a long freshwater lake. Each year there are millions of tourists from all around Alberta who come to Sylvan Lake to enjoy the fun activities on the lake.

What Tourists Can Do In Sylvan Lake

Sylvan Lake offers various fun activities at any time of the year. In summer there are endless water sports to enjoy. In winter you can do ice fishing, cross-country skiing, snow-shoeing and many more! If you're a golf lover, make sure to play a few rounds of golf. Sylvan Lake has some very gorgeous golf courses such as the Meadowlands Golf Club, Top O' the Hill Golf Course.

Sylvan Lake's climate is relatively temperate, with fairly cold and snowy winters, cool springs and mild summers. The average temperature during the winter months is about -14.6 degrees, while summer sees the average high temperature of 15.7 degrees with higher days per season. Sylvan Lake sees an annual rainfall average of 398.3 millimetres or 15.68 inches and the total snowfall amount is averaged at 158.2 centimetres every year.

It is one of the largest towns in the province with a 2013 population measurement of 13,327 people and is now eligible for city status in the province of Alberta. The town's population is relatively young, with 33.2% of the population 19 years of age or under; while the retirement population sits at 6.7%.

If you want to keep on top of things, Sylvan Lake can be the place for you. It has one local newspaper. It is called Sylvan Lake News. You can also receive newspapers from nearby Red Deer. Having no broadcast television stations by itself but it get broadcast news from Edmonton at all three of the big channels. Although it doesn't have any radio stations but it gets signals from Red Deer, which pleases listeners.

Homes in Sylvan Lake are typically affordable when compared to many areas of Canada. House prices range from $99,000 to over $1 million dollars for large plots of land with spacious houses. The town has street maintenance, water and sewers, waste management and gas and electricity services.

For anyone who needs to rent facilities here, there is a community centre, Aquatic Centre, Multi-Plex, Multi-Campus and many trails parks and sports fields. There are many indoor and outdoor recreational areas to choose from, as well as 2 provincial parks.
