By Janine Hughes

Stock is probably the most important aspect for any business; you need it in order to operate. As such, it is very important that your stock be stored in a warehouse that suits your business needs. Although you may be looking for a warehouse just as a temporary measure, finding one that suits your needs is vital. Here are a few tips to help you during warehouse leasing.

Location is a prime factor when choosing business storage facility. Where the facility is located determine how easy it is to receive and distribute good to clients. As such, it is very important that your storehouse be located in a place that is convenient for shipping of goods to various destinations. This means that if you are a smaller trader, it will be advisable to choose a warehouse that is close to your target customers. A good storehouse should also have good transport routes such as railways and motorways based nearby.

When choosing a public warehouse, you should also give room for future expansion. If you are a serious investor, your aim should always be to grow your expansion. In other words, you should not shift warehouses every time your volume increases. Ask your prospective warehouse provider the capacity it can handle at a time and what it will do should you need more space in future. You should also find out value added capabilities that the facility offers, these are services like reverse logistics, kitting and pick and pack. You never know when you will need such services.

Leasing cost is another very important factor. Of course this usually varies from one geographical location to the other and also from one store to the other. As such, it is very important that you compare rates from a number of warehouses before making a choice. At the same time, you need to be skeptical with warehouses whose charges are suspiciously low. This could be a sign that the security status of the surrounding is not good enough.

Security system of the facility is also important. Look for fire extinguisher, sprinklers, hose heals and easy accessibility to hydrants. The building should also have intruder sensor. If there are any dead zones, then more sensors will be required.

Just to be sure that you have made the right choice; it would also be good to talk to some people who have used the facility. Those who had fantastic time with the warehouses they used will always be fast to recommend them. These opinions and reality checks are always worth their weight and gold. As such, they should be taken with seriousness that they deserve.

Before you start using the storehouse, you should also sign a contract with its directors. This will safeguard you from unscrupulous providers who do not keep their word. Without a contract, the provider can just wake up and increase fees for you and you will have no option but to pay or else you lose your goods.

In order to successfully expand your manufacturing business, you should always invest in quality storehouse. You must not settle on a storehouse that will not well with your business. This will definitely time you some time, as such; you must start the search in advance.
