Texas Hill Country is a special place filled with beautiful scenery and lovely small towns featuring interesting historic architecture. There are actually 25 counties that comprise this popular Texas region with many interesting geographic features. Here is some interesting information about this popular area in Texas.

One interesting geographic feature is the Llano Uplift, which features a multitude of granite domes, including the famous Enchanted Rock. At Enchanted Rock State Natural Area, you can rock climb, hike or enjoy camping and picnicking. The park features a wide variety of native plant species, as well as birds, butterflies, squirrels, armadillos and even white-tailed deer.

In addition to the hills and rocks, there's a lot going on underground and you can visit a number of caverns throughout Texas Hill Country. One cavern, the Cave Without a Name in Boerne, has been named a National Natural Landmark. Inner Space Cavern, which is located near Georgetown and Natural Bridge Caverns are both open for tours and definitely worth a visit.

Lavender has become one of the symbols of Texas Hill Country, and there is a booming lavender industry in this region with at least 50 farms producing this fragrant, edible plant. There are a few festivals dedicated to this plant, including the Becker Vineyards Lavender Fest and the Blanco Lavender Festival, which offer plenty of lavender products for sale as well as events and activities. The state lavender association also is located in Texas Hill Country in Johnson City.

Grapes also grow well in Texas Hill Country, and this region is quite well known for producing excellent vintages. There are more than 35 different wineries in the region and many offer wine tastings and tours. Texas is, in fact, the first place in the United States where grapes were grown to make wine. While you might think California started it all, Franciscan monks started up the Texas wine industry long before the first vines were planted in California.
