Silver Coins From The Well Known Carson City Mint!

By Chase Johnson

The Carson City Mint is a particular facility that was built in Carson City in Nevada and it started its operations from 1970 for over 20 years. Every single coin that come from this facility will have the CC signet imprinted on it and these specific coins are especially rare and thus valuable. Because the facility itself was located nearby the Comstock Lode, most of the coin specimens were sourced from the Carson City Mint. Products of gold were part of the production of the city but these are generally lesser in number. The minted Morgan dollars of silver are one of the most valuable ones.

From the year 1871 right up to 1878, dimes were produced in massive amounts. There was a period of time, specifically within a 2-year period, during 1875 and in 1876 that 20 cent silver coins were produced. Throughout the stretch of 1870 to 1878, the production of quarters and half dollars began. The silver dollars began production from 1870 until 1885 where the production stopped for a moment. In 1889, they continued right up to 1893.

When it comes to numismatic value almost all of the coins that were minted in Carson City are considered valuable. The lower numbers produced and the policy of melting down older specimens in order to produce new ones have made some of the various years and types very pricey because there are fewer still in existence. In some cases you will find that they may be valued at thousands of dollars or even more, and they may be worth more than some gold items instead because of the rarity and high interest from collectors.

Once, there was a significant discovery by the US government in the 1970s. A collection of Morgan silver dollars was found and they were sold off at high prices almost immediately. Huge interest began to develop for these coins and the demand greatly increased. Since these coins were only produced in the Carson City Mint facility, they became extremely popular.

It is more difficult to find specimens from the Carson City facility in mint condition but this is possible. Perform a search and you will see that there are some still available but you should expect to pay more than the current spot price. These items have a premium attached that can be high, but for those who enjoy collecting them the cost may be well worth it. It may even be possible to find some that are still in perfect condition or that have never been circulated.
