A Few Steps To Know If You Have Purchased A Fake Coin

By Hugh Magnus

As there is no profile for a counterfeit coin, I check every raw coin I purchase. I've encountered counterfeit old worn coins, brand new mint coins, cheap bullion coins, and costly rare coins.

There aren't lots of fake coins , yet examining them is really easy that I create it a practice to check each raw coin I get. I continue to be relieved if they pass. I hate locating fake and wish they didn't exist.

If I receive the coin in the mail, I examine the coin through giving it the "ring" evaluation that I've stated in various other posts. If the coin rings and appears right , I hardly ever pursue even more tests.

I also do the ring test in the coin store before I buy. I usually get unusual looks from the counter clerk, yet I decided that when there's a problem with the merchandise, I wish to bring it up right at the front of the seller. I don't wish them to say I walked out of the store, changed coins and demanded a replacement.

I try to only buy coins from retailers who guarantee the authenticity of their product. Even at that, claiming that someone just offered you a counterfeit coin is a great responsibility. I must be certain that the coin truly isn't what it was showed to be , before I go after someone for it .

In my hundreds of coin buys, I've only gone back to two retailers for selling counterfeits. I felt like I required like a strong case, that there was no doubt about the authenticity of the coin.

When I locate a fake coin, I'm suddenly thrown into the quandary of what do I do concerning this. As in any scenario, there are some choices to choose from. 1. Do nothing. 2. Contact the police. This is similar to choice #1. 3. Get in touch with the seller. This can be the same to #1, or a lot more aggravating. 4. Contact the fake coin "Hotline" and report it.

In the end however, if you discover a fake coin, it becomes your word towards the seller's. It is fairly difficult to prove that you didn't exchange their "authentic" coin for a fake one to be able to obtain a totally free coin out of them.
