A Public Relations (PR) firm works to help a company or a person create a reputable image. Professionals or firms that handle public relations are the ones who do this type of the work. A PR person or team must have solid connections with the media and the internet in order to boost their client's reputation.

Why is there a need of PR for designers?

The world of fashion can be an extremely cut throat arena. Designers with public relations people to help them can be more successful since design involves popularity. Since a PR person has strong contacts, this can definitely augment the popularity of a designer, and with the skills of a PR person, continuously build the designer's reputation. A popular image means that the designer can gain more clients. This of course, leads to better sales. A designer has to take care of his image as the public can be very sensitive to even the smallest of faults. After all, a bad rep leads to the fall of any company.

When designers need PR, they have to take a look at how a PR professional or firm will work. One of the first steps that they would take is to introduce the designer to the target market and the media in terms of the designer's works, successes, and so on and so forth.

There may be a public information department within the PR firm that can address to the queries of clients or problems faced by the designer. Public relations may also involve research that usually focuses on the satisfaction of the designer's clients on the service and the products.

The PR team will also be the ones who will filter and release the updates on what's hot about the designer in terms of his professional output. A PR person will make use of all forms of media from social networking sites to TV commercials to reach out to the public regarding this. They will also play a major role when the designer is about to showcase his or her designs in a major event. A good PR person provides truthful information regarding his client and does not fake information just to temporarily boost the designer's image.
